Agency Highlights

  • The agency EAP business roughly doubles in size each year from the mid 1980 to the mid-1990.
  • 1980 — The agency changes its name to Family Services of King County.
  • 1980 — Widowed Information and Consultation Services becomes an agency program.
  • 1986 — Two new programs are added: Compassionate Friends (service for grieving parents) and Seattle Child Guidance Center.
  • 1987 — Family Services founds Facing Aging Concerns Together (FACT) to provide professional education in gerontology.
  • 1988 — Morningsong Early Learning Center opens in Yesler Terrace to provide enriched childcare specially designed for homeless toddlers and preschoolers (ages 1-5).
  • 1988 — The Resident Assistance Program opens to provide counseling and advocacy for residents of Seattle Housing Authority communities, with emphasis on eviction prevention.
