Miguel, Supportive Housing

Single, in his 40's, and with untreated mental health and chemical dependency issues, Miguel was very depressed and suicidal when he entered our Transitional Assistance program. While working with his caseworker, he was psychiatrically hospitalized several times. After his last hospitalization and with the encouragement of his caseworker, Miguel agreed to begin chemical dependency treatment. The case worker then connected him to Seattle Mental Health.

After receiving shelter vouchers through our Transitional Assistance program, Miguel located permanent housing in Shoreline and assistance from a local church.

Recently Miguel contacted his caseworker to thank her for all the support and encouragement she gave him. He says he is feeling much more positive and happy about the direction his life is taking. He has continued with his mental health counseling and is currently "clean and sober." Miguel also stated that he is making friends who are clean and sober and said that "I really feel I am part of a community."
