Supportive Housing

If you're homeless it's not easy to find a stable place to live. There are all kinds of barriers to getting off the street: first month's rent and move-in costs, poor credit and eviction history, identification requirements, a background check, and just finding an affordable apartment. Where do you begin?

Family Services can help with case management and housing services for homeless families, couples, and individuals living in King County. Our services include an assessment of your needs, helping you with a housing search, and advocacy with housing providers. Once you have a home, we provide case management and support services to help you maintain your living situation.

We help with:

  • Reducing the barriers to housing
  • Interim housing and shelter
  • Transitional housing with a link to permanent, long-term housing
  • Access to support services including counseling, medical care, childcare, employment, education, and training opportunities.

How to get help

The first step is to call 206-902-4271 and follow the voicemail instructions to set up a phone screening with our client support coordinator who will work with you to see if you're eligible for these services. Eligible applicants will then complete an application and participate in an assessment with a professional social worker. All of your information is completely confidential.

What to expect from supportive housing services

We ask that you participate in case management and work to achieve a personally-designed goal plan with the end result being to obtain and maintain safe, stable housing. We may provide financial assistance for housing on a limited basis within your overall plan.

Moving into housing

Meeting your immediate housing needs keeps you safe, but it doesn't keep you from becoming homeless again. Family Services' housing program works with families to provide the services necessary for families to maintain permanent housing, independently and for years to come. These enriched services help you handle physical and mental health barriers, domestic violence, chemical dependency, lack of livable wage job skills, and other obstacles to help you maintain permanent housing and a stable environment.

About our community partners

Family Services is part of an innovative partnership between public agencies and private housing developers to help end homelessness in Seattle. With funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Sound Families Initiative, Family Services helps local families "transition in place" — evolving their transitional housing into permanent housing.
