Don't Just Look Away!

Tonight 900 children under the age of 6 are homeless in King County.
But we don't see them. They are hidden in cars, sleeping on couches and residing in temporary shelters. What if we could? On May 10, 2007, 300 life-size cardboard cutout children appeared on the streets of downtown Seattle.
They carried cardboard signs to share the story of homeless children in King County: "We live in a car", "My mommy can't stop crying", "Need food, crib, diapers".
Throughout the summer of 2007 these children appeared and disappeared in neighborhoods throughout King County. We received great coverage by the media and a number of local and national awards that have allowed us to share this message far and wide (see links at bottom right). Today, we continue to display these kids at events, out the windows of our offices, and inside the businesses of our board and community partners.
At Wellspring Family Services we help homeless families every day, and we are commited to ending homelessness for 5,000 families in the next 10 Years. Today you, too, can help change the life of a homeless child.
