Donation FAQ

When I make a donation, where does my money go?

You money stays in our community to help us give families the lasting solutions they need to build healthy relationships and stable lives. We're not part of a national organization, although we are affiliated with many coalitions, and we are not a government agency. Our service area includes all communities within the boundaries of King County.

Which programs and services are funded by donations?

All of our programs except Wellspring Family Services EAP are, in some way, funded with your donations. We utilize unrestricted donations wherever our needs are greatest. They help us fund many programs and services, such as homeless and family stabilization, childcare for homeless families, infant mental health counseling, domestic violence intervention, and much more.

What percentage of my donation goes to administration and fundraising?

From our revenues generated in 2005, approximately 4% went toward fundraising costs and 12% toward general administration.

Can I designate my donation to go to a specific program or service?

Yes. We would be glad to accept your donation to our general fund to be used where most needed, or you may also direct your donation to one of the following service areas:

  • Housing Services
  • Morningsong Early Learning Center
  • Baby Boutique
  • Domestic Violence Intervention
  • Counseling
  • Parenting Services
  • Operating Endowment
  • Capital Campaign
    • Unrestricted
    • Building
    • Program Expansion

If you are interested in a particular designation, please include a note when you make your donation.

Can I give to the Capital Campaign?

Yes, we would be honored to accept your Capital Campaign pledge.

Do you sell or lend my personal information to other organizations?

Never. Your personal information is not sold or exchanged with any other organization. We maintain standard safeguards to protect the confidentiality and security of nonpublic personal information. Please contact our Development Office at 206-826-3050 x116 if you have further questions or concerns.

Will I get more mail if I donate?

You will receive different mailings from our organization to keep you up-to-date about the issues in our community. These will never be excessive. If you ever receive mail that you would prefer not to receive in the future, we encourage you to call and let us know, so that we may limit the mailings to your preference.

Can I make a donation in honor or memory of someone?

Yes. Please inform us of the person to be remembered or honored, including their or their family's address, and we'll let them know of your special gift.

How will I know you have received my donation?

Unless you request us not to, we will provide a thank-you note after each donation. You should receive this correspondence within a few days of our receiving your support.

May I donate through United Way?

Yes. You can designate that your gift to United Way be directed to Family Services of King County

Can I donate through my employer or through payroll deduction?

Most workplace campaigns, United Way drives, or other organized fundraising campaigns allow you to choose the nonprofit organization of your choice. Please check with your human resources department or campaign coordinator.

Will my company match my gift?

There's only one way to find out. Ask your company's HR representative. With every donation you make, you should check with your employer to see if your company can match your gift. Some companies will match you dollar for dollar and others even provide a 2:1 match.

Can I make a donation using a credit card?

Yes. We accept MasterCard, Visa, and American Express by phone, mail, or online. This is a great way to make installment payments.

May I see a copy of your Annual Report?

Yes. Download a PDF of our Annual Report now. We are also registered with the State of Washington through its charities division or you can find more information at GuideStar.
